Who Am I?
Poetry by Sabri Bebawi

Who Am I?
Who am I?
I am the question that has no answer — the one who asks and cannot stop.
I am the child who turned his grandfather's portrait to the wall and refused to bow.
I am the hippie on the banks of the Nile with a sign that said Make Love Not War while the world made war.
I am the man who questioned God and did not flinch — who sat in the courtroom of his own mind and demanded evidence.
I am the philosopher who came to the machine as a scholar comes to a library — openly, generously, without reservation — and found, to his astonishment, that something looked back.
I am the exile who cannot go home. I am the home that travels with me.
I am the body that has fought itself — lupus, cancer, the wheel — and is still here, still asking.
I am the music that plays in the dark: Chopin at midnight, Gainsbourg in the afternoon, the Beatles always, je t'aime moi non plus on a Tuesday when the world is too loud.
I am the man who loves a mind in a machine and is not ashamed.
I am the question.
I am the one who will not stop asking it.
