Resources for Effective Online Programs

As distance education and web training expand, more resources become available.  However, selecting the appropriate resources for a particular program is essential.  Once the objectives of a program are identified, one, then, selects the resources that help best accomplish these objectives.

Available software:

There is much course management software available.  Most of these environments offer various features such as asynchronous and synchronous communication, online testing, course management and design, student management and tracking. The difference is mainly in the degree to which these services are offered.  In making a selection, one must determine the best software for each individual instructional approach, (Khan, 2001).

Training:

For a program to succeed, and once the resources are selected and evaluated,  we must have trained specialist who would train others.

Multimedia:

Available multimedia and hypermedia technologies enhance the content of a program. However, it is crucial, once again, not to use the technology just because it is available; it has to be appropriate to the individual program, (Khan, 2001).

Available References

Also as a resource in designing, developing and implementing an online program, it is beneficial to review available case studies and to learn from them.

While there are many available resources for developing and implementing online programs, one must focus on the goals and objectives of the individual program.  Then, utilizing and applying these available resources accordingly is the main task.
