Participation

Expressions

The paper should show consistent control written expression. Highly specific word choice and information also create a purposeful tone in the writing and enhance the writer’s voice

There is evidence of effective use of normal word order and component variation in sentence length and complexity The essay shows inconsistent control of written expression. The paper lacks effective word choice and lacks sentence variety. Evidence of awkward constructions that make the meaning unclear
 

Unity

The essay is generally unified in that all of the parts contribute to the creation of an idea. The central idea is supported with enough details. The writing provides evidence of unity by exhibiting a consistent point of view and pronoun reference. The writing shows effective use of appropriate transitions both within paragraphs and between paragraphs The essay is reasonably unified but not always consistent. The paper shows occasional lapses in coherence or cohesiveness, but unity is evident. The central idea is supported with enough examples, illustrations, reasons, events, or details The essay is generally not unified. The central idea may be absent or not well developed. The essay includes weak or illogical statement that are not supported

 

 

 

Quizzes

The student completes all quizzes and assignments in a timely manner. S/he reads and complete exercises on assigned readings and hand-outs. S/he works with care on the multiple choice interactive quizzes to insure
understanding of the questions
The student completes all quizzes, but not on time. S/he fails to read all assigned readings

 

 

The student fails to complete all assigned quizzes and/or scores below average. S/he fails to complete all assigned readings

 

 

Exams

For the essay section, follow the guidelines above. For the structure section, the student scores a minimum of 85%. For the essay section, follow the guidelines above.
