A comprehensive index of more than 2.3 million bibliographic citations to articles, books, maps, papers, reports, and theses covering the geosciences internationally. This index is maintained and updated monthly by the AGI. The print version of this work is the Bibliography and Index of Geology.

U.S. Geological Survey.
Access to more than 100 years' worth of data collected by the USGS. Resources include numerous databases that offer reports, maps, and surveys of geological places and features. The Geological Survey's publications are also available in any library that is a federal documents repository, and there is an index to its publications, available in print (Publications of the Geological Survey) and online. U.S. Geological Survey: Minerals Yearbook.
Provides information on 90 minerals, including production, foreign trade, outlook, and current research, and reports on the mining industry in each state and in over 175 countries. Maps and statistics are included. This resource is also published in print format by the U.S. Government Printing Office.

West's Geology Resources.
A large, selective list of links that cover paleontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, and mineralogy. The site's emphasis is on U.K. geology, but there are links to sites worldwide. It is maintained by Ian West of Southampton University.

Offers lengthy, scholarly articles on oceanography, atmospheric sciences and astrogeology, geochemistry, world regional geography, climatology, and structural geology.

Glossary of Geology. Ed. Robert L. Bates and Julia A. Jackson. 4th ed. Washington, D.C.: American Geological Institute, 1997.
Defines more than 37,000 geological terms and provides bibliographic references for disputed or controversial ones. This work is available in electronic format.

Lexicon of Geologic Names of the United States (including Alaska). 2 vols. Washington, D.C.: Government Printing Office, 1936. With supplements.
Provides information from records kept since the 1880s by the U.S. Geological Survey, Geological Names Committee. This work identifies the names of geological features by time period and location and provides reviews of the literature referring to the names. Supplements provide information on more recently named features. Most (90 percent) of the names from the print volumes are provided online.
