This electronic index provides bibliographic citations and descriptive abstracts (no full text) of papers and reports, as well as journal articles from 800 periodicals in the field of environmental science. This work, international in scope, is updated monthly. The print version is titled Environmental Abstracts.

Information on the EPA and related organizations. This site provides environmental databases with information on a variety of issues including safe drinking water and hazardous waste. The site also provides links to libraries, environmental publications, and EPA dockets and reports.

National Council for Science and the Environment: National Library for the Environment.
Provides the full texts of Congressional Research Service reports on environmental issues, reference resources, state of the environment reports from a variety of sources, and more. The National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) was established in 1990 to provide "accurate and complete science-based information on the environment" to environmental policymakers. It is endorsed by a number of universities and environmental and scientific organizations.

The Nature Conservancy.
Provides information on the Nature Conservancy's programs and research, with databases in taxonomy, nomenclature, status, distribution, habitat, ecology, and management. The site also links to government conservation efforts, such as the National Biological Information Infrastructure, which provides press releases on endangered species and specialized pages full of facts for researchers. The Nature Conservancy is an international nonprofit conservation group.

World Resources Institute.
Sponsored by an organization dedicated to improving the environment. The site provides links to information on environmental issues including World Resources publications, statistics, and maps as well as news and educational materials about the global environment. The site covers topics such as biodiversity, climate change, sustainable agriculture, and water resources.

WWW Virtual Library: Environment.
An encyclopedic set of links on the environment sorted into categories such as atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere. Users can search the site or view a list of all the links. An annual report on global environmental issues including land use, water resources, population, and pollution, with many comparative statistical tables and maps. This work is a joint publication of the World Resources Institute, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and Development Program (UNDP), and the World Bank. The World Resources Institute Web site provides some of the organization's publications online, including statistics and maps, with additional news and educational materials about the global environment.
