Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Philadelphia: Institute for Scientific Information, 1978–.
An interdisciplinary index to articles in more than 1,000 periodicals that is searchable by author, keyword, and citation index. Providing citations and descriptive abstracts (no full-text articles), this index is available in print and electronic formats. It may be available as AHSearch or as part of the Web of Science.

Humanities Index. New York: Wilson, 1974–.
An interdisciplinary index to the most prominent English-language journals in the humanities, including art, music, history, and literature. Searchable by author or subject, the index includes many cross-references and subheadings that break large topics into components. This index provides citations only (no abstracts or full-text articles). It is available in print and electronic formats.

Electronic Text Center, University of Virginia.
A vast collection of electronic texts, in twelve languages. It is possible to search hundreds of texts at once by keyword and to download them to your computer. The site includes links to other electronic text collections on the Web. (Note that some texts are available only to University of Virginia students and staff.)

A wide-ranging index to sites of interest to researchers in humanities disciplines: art, literature, philosophy, religion, and culture studies, with links to higher education and publishing sites. The site is maintained by Alan Liu, professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Dictionary of the History of Ideas: Studies of Selected Pivotal Ideas. Ed. Philip P. Wiener. 4 vols. New York: Scribner, 1973–74.
Covers topics in intellectual history, with lengthy, scholarly discussion of important ideas, primarily Western. It includes citations and some full texts of articles. Though dated, this work can provide solid overviews of key concepts. It is available in both print and electronic editions.

The Humanities: A Selective Guide to Information Sources. By Ron Blazek and Elizabeth Aversa. 4th ed. Englewood, Colo.: Libraries Unlimited, 2000.
A print guide to research tools in the humanities, including the arts, philosophy, religion, and language and literature. Critical annotations are provided for each source listed.
